Today is a good day to move on
Richmond, Virginia -- February 1, 2007
The time has come to move on and after today I will seldom (if ever) update RD again.
My decision to move on is being driven primarily by a change in my employment status: I have accepted a very lucrative job offer out of state and I will be moving, leaving Richmond, in the next ten days. I could prolong the goodbye a bit longer, but I really need to pack up my apartment and plan my move.
A secondary consideration is the crumbling condition of the Blogger platform. As Blogger rolled over from Blogger Classic to Blogger Beta I found myself locked out of my own Blogger account. Given that I had already decided to retire in the next week, I am not strongly motivated to solve the problem with my Blogger account.
My new job is quite simply an offer I cannot refuse: a generous paycheck doing something I am very good at and enjoy doing. I intend to focus my energies on this new opportunity.
I will not be taking the site down immediately--many of my old posts continue to generate hits and Google Adsense income. The site will come down when the hit count declines and the revenue dries up. In the future my political activity in Virginia will be limited to the strategic use of my checkbook.
I have enjoyed meeting many of my blogging colleagues and I wish you all well as you continue our many-sided discussion. Remember my advice: If everyone does their little bit, things will work out all right.

Man, this really bums me out! I'm happy for you otherwise, but I'll miss you! You are one of my favorite VA bloggers! Best of luck and stay in touch!
you will be missed...keep up the good work jc!
Best of luck in your new venture and home.
And I agree, the new Blogger stinks!
Sorry to see you go. Didn't agree on much, but RD was an old warhorse that kept things civil and stayed on topic.
Your presence will be missed... at least on the left. ;)
Best of luck in the new job!
We'll all be poorer for your absence, brother Wilmore. May th' Lord hold ye lightly in th' palm o' his hand till we meet again.

I, too, will be sorry to see you go. I was going to come over here since Vivian banned me.
J.C.,
Perhaps we'll see you in the comments sections of selected blogs, from time to time?
Good luck.

RD you will be missed. I appreciate your addition to the ever changing debate. Whether you are blogging or not there is always hope that you will come over to the RIGHT side. Take care. God bless.
When I first moved to Richmond, your blog was one of the first local blogs I read on a regular basis. Great info on politics and local events.
Glad to hear you're moving on to bigger and better things. Your site and writings will be missed.
Good Luck!
So you're leaving us here to fight for adding Virginia Unionists to Monument Avenue by ourselves?
Actually, I don't think J.C. ever advocated putting them on Monument Avenue, he just wants them somewhere in Richmond.
